Call for Entries
CONTEST DETAILS:
The Photo Show is open to youth (twelfth grade and younger) and adult amateur photographers in the St. Louis metropolitan area. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded at the Awards Reception on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at the University City Public Library, 6701 Delmar Boulevard. All entries will be considered for inclusion in the 2015 calendar distributed to University City residents.
Winners will be notified at the awards reception only!
Entries may be delivered on April 20 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and April 21 till 6:00 p.m. at the front desk of the Centennial Commons (7210 Olive).
GENERAL GUIDELINES:
Each photo will be judged on originality, composition and design, technical excellence (including print quality) and presentation. All decisions of the judges are final. Entries will be displayed at juror’s discretion.
*The 2015 University City community calendar will feature entries from the Photo Show. The calendar committee will select 12 outstanding photographs to be featured in the calendar. Although U. City theme entries are preferred, each photo entered in the contest will be considered regardless of whether it won an award or not.
AWARDS AND PRIZES:
Cash prizes will be awarded for “Best in Show” in both adult, youth and innovative categories. First and second prizes (cash) will be awarded in the same categories. In case of a tie, prizes will be awarded to both winners.
Competition Categories:
ADULT (Ages 19 and older)

YOUTH (Students 18 & younger):
- Black and White
- Color
- U. City Themes — color or black & white
INNOVATIVE PHOTOGRAPHY: Open to youth and adults experimenting with new techniques, including hand coloring, high contrast, collage, solarizing and other processes that test the limits of the medium and computer generated special effects. Original image must have been photographed by the entrant. No stock photography which has been manipulated will be accepted. The categories for this area of the competition are –
- Traditional Techniques
- Computer Generated Effects

RULES OF COMPETITION:
- The University City Photo Show is open to all NON-PROFESSIONAL photographers in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
- No photographs previously submitted to a University City Photo Competition will be accepted.
- A $5 entry fee for youth and $10 entry fee for adults must accompany all entries.
- All entries must be mounted on four-ply or form board (matting preferred) without frame or glass.
- If matted, the mat must be white or off-white.
- Minimum print size is 8″ x 10″; maximum mounted print size is 20″ x 24″. There is no minimum size for the innovative category, but the maximum size is 20″ x 24″.
- All prints must be accompanied with a JPEG digital copy on a CD. Identify each JPEG with your name, title of print, and dimensions. Please write your name, address, and phone number on the CD.
- Mounted snapshots will NOT be accepted.
- Name, address, and category must legibly appear on the back of each print.
- Entries received by mail will not be returned by mail unless accompanied by sufficient return postage.
- Photos may be picked up from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2013 at the University City Library, 6701 Delmar.
Please prepare your work properly to avoid damage. Neither the City of University City nor its employees, members of the Municipal Commission on Arts and Letters, nor the judges, are responsible for any loss or damage to photographs submitted for the Photo Show.
