Arts & Letters Event: Zumba Fundraiser

Get fit and help support the Starlight Concert series!  Special sessions of Zumba, the popular aerobic dance fitness program, will be held on three dates in the next three months.  Proceeds will go to help put on the annual Starlight Concert series in Heman Park.

The sessions will be held from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on March 23, and May 11 in the Heman Park Community Center, 975 Pennsylvania Avenue, University City.  Admission at the door is $10.

The Starlight Concerts are run by the Municipal Commission on Arts & Letters of University City.  Questions about the Zumba sessions, and the concerts, may be sent to


Starlight Concert series returns to the Heman Park concert stage, Monday, June 4

Tell your friends and family, get your lawn chairs and blankets ready! The annual Monday night summer Starlight Concert series is almost here!

All Monday night concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. and will take place on the south side of Heman Park at the Midland/Shaftsbury entrance. There is also a special Saturday afternoon show on July 7 which begins at 3:30 p.m.

The 2018 concert lineup is:

6/4 – Tiffany Elle & Friends (contemporary sounds, pop and hiphop)
6/18 – Felicia Ezell, Sam Huddleston & Chad Evens — tribute to Jeffery Osborne and Deniece Williams
6/25 – David Hicks Project (Dance, Pop, R&B, and Rock Ballads from 1968 to 2018)
7/7 (Saturday) – Coleman Hughes Project featuring Adrianne, and The Cheryl Brown Band (Smooth Jazz/R&B)
7/9 – TLT Productions (The 80s and 90s Show)
7/16 – The Convertables (Pop, Rock, and Country)
7/23 – Inner City Blues (Blues)
7/30 – Black Diamonds – featuring Tambra Cross & Chuck Flowers (70s Funk)
8/6 – Flirt (Contemporary R&B)

Starlight Concert returns to Heman Park for 2016

The annual Starlight Concert series returns Monday, June 6 in Heman Park.  This long-running favorite, sponsored by the Municipal Commission on Arts & Letters of University City, features free weekly concerts by local musicians.

This year’s schedule:

June 6 – Brock Walker’s Earth, Wind and Fire Tribute Band

June 20 – Brian Owens

June 27 – Rhoda G

July 11 – AJSR/Mother’s Children

July 18 – Jeff Hardin

July 25 – Theo Peoples

August 1 – Monya

August 8 – Denise Thimes

August 15 – Jeremiah Allen’s Tribute to Stevie Wonder

Each concert runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday evenings, and takes place at the concert stage near the Heman Park entrance at Midland and Shaftesbury.  Concessions are usually available at the show, sold by the University City PTO.
